The university core campus which is located on the Red Sea at Thuwal is more than 36 square kilometres (14 square mile). Since the university was constructed for research and development, there was a very high technological specification through the project. All of this was supported by a Super Computer named the Shaheen. At the time of implementation, this computer was the 14th fastest computer on the planet which in turn, had to be installed within its very own Data Centre within the campus.
